Position Summary
The Kindness Coordinator (Meal Fairy Program – UVA) is a part-time, mission-driven staff role focused on providing both nutritious meals and genuine human connection to families with hospitalized children at UVA Health Children’s in Charlottesville. More than a meal delivery role, this position brings comfort, companionship, and a reassuring presence to caregivers and loved ones during long, emotionally challenging hospital stays. Compassion is delivered alongside lunch, helping families feel seen, supported, and less alone.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly meal planning, ordering, preparation, pickup, and delivery at UVA Health Children’s.
- Distribute meals and comfort items with warmth, patience, and respect.
- Provide compassionate presence, friendly conversation, and companionship when welcomed by families.
- Demonstrate strong emotional awareness, respecting boundaries and privacy, and adjusting approach based on family needs.
- Coordinate and support volunteers assisting with meal preparation or delivery.
- Maintain compliance with UVA volunteer requirements, hospital protocols, confidentiality guidelines, and CJSTUF guidelines.
- Follow CJSTUF purchasing procedures and support light tracking and program documentation.
Time Commitment & Compensation
Approximately 8–12 hours per week, supporting one hospital site (UVA). Meal delivery occurs on Wednesdays. Hourly pay range: $20–$25/hour. Mileage reimbursement available per CJSTUF policy. No health benefits provided.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work compassionately with families experiencing medical crises.
- Must provide proof of a valid driver’s license, motor vehicle insurance, and DMV driving record upon hire.
- Access to reliable transportation and ability to transport food and materials.
- Willingness and ability to become a registered UVA Health volunteer.
- Alignment with CJSTUF’s mission and values.
