Position Summary
TACI is seeking an experienced Hydraulic Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain our fleet of heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, commercial trucks, trailers, and underground utility construction equipment.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience working on Ditch Witch, Vermeer, Toro, or similar underground construction equipment, along with strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical diagnostics, and preventative fleet maintenance. This position is essential to keeping TACI's construction equipment operating safely, efficiently, and ready to support fiber optic and broadband deployment projects throughout Southern California.
Primary Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and diesel engine systems

Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, commercial trucks, trailers, and construction machinery

Troubleshoot and repair Ditch Witch, Vermeer, Toro, or similar HDD equipment

Repair hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings, and control systems

Maintain Ford Super Duty diesel trucks and fleet vehicles

Diagnose engine, cooling, braking, steering, suspension, fuel, and electrical system issues

Perform DOT inspections and identify equipment deficiencies
-
Repair trailers, air brake systems, lighting systems, and towing equipment
-
Perform welding and light fabrication as needed

Respond to field service calls to support active construction projects when required

Complete repair documentation, maintenance records, and equipment inspection reports

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop while following OSHA and manufacturer safety standards
Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of hydraulic, heavy equipment, or diesel mechanic experience

Experience repairing underground utility construction equipment

Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and advanced troubleshooting techniques

Experience servicing diesel-powered commercial trucks and heavy equipment

Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics

Experience using diagnostic software, scan tools, and electrical testing equipment

Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and equipment inspections

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, Toro, or similar HDD equipment

Experience repairing vacuum excavators, mud mixing systems, trenchers, and support equipment

Experience maintaining Ford Power Stroke diesel engines

Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)

Welding and light fabrication experience

Hydraulic component rebuilding experience

DOT inspection certification

Air brake diagnostics and repair experience

Experience maintaining telecommunications construction fleets

Bilingual English and Spanish
Physical Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and working around heavy construction equipment throughout the workday. Candidates must be able to safely lift up to 75 pounds, work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, climb ladders, work underneath equipment, and occasionally travel to active construction sites to perform field repairs. Overtime and emergency equipment repairs may be required to support construction operations.
