Staff Accountant
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, Hybrid

Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is an entry level role responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization by maintaining accurate financial records, filing sales and use tax returns, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and year-end close activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional to develop technical accounting skills while contributing to the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
- File monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual sales and use tax.
- Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets and prepaid expense schedules.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
- Review financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting analyses for management.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
- Monitor and investigate accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
- 1–2 years of accounting experience
- Internship experience may be considered toward the experience requirement.
Skills & Knowledge
- Understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic financial analysis.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Progress toward bachelor’s degree.
- Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation.
- Experience working with government contracting, project accounting, or federal compliance requirements.
