American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care facility in Opelika, AL, requiring at least 1 year of experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Acute care hospital setting with placement on one of two Med/Surg units (5T or 7T)
-
5T unit has 34 beds with a focus on diagnoses including CKD, ESRD, CVA, and DM; 7T unit has 36 beds and commonly treats COPD, Sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, Diabetes, COVID, Anemia, and general Weakness

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6

Nurse aides are available with a goal ratio of 1:12 or better

RNs on 5T must be able to read telemetry strips independently; monitor techs are in a separate monitor room and not located on the unit; 7T uses Philips monitors and CMR owns the telemetry process with no tele techs on the floor

On 7T, RNs may titrate Heparin drips with pharmacist direction; set-rate drips include Amiodarone, Dobutamine, and Cardizem (all at stable doses)

RT equipment on 5T includes high-flow oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP; 7T supports all O2 modalities up to BiPAP — no ventilators

Charting is done in Cerner

Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week

4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period

Floating required within the medical-surgical division

No on-call or standby requirements for travel staff

13-week contract

Active AL RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS certification required for both units; NIHSS certification additionally required for 5T

Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

BSN not required

Cerner EMR experience preferred

Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently

Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Holiday coverage is required: 5T requires 1 major and 2 minor holidays in winter; 7T requires Thanksgiving or Christmas plus New Year's Day or New Year's Eve, and one summer holiday (July 4th or Memorial Day)

Scrubs must be ceil blue; scrubs are not provided by the facility
-
5T orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit; 7T orientation includes one week of PCPO at the education center plus two 12-hour shifts on the assigned unit

On 5T, modified self-scheduling is available; on 7T, contract employees do not self-schedule, though block scheduling is accommodated when possible

Charge nurses may flow into staffing as census or staffing needs dictate
