AMG Danbury specializes in producing rotorcraft composite blade leading-edge abrasion strips, turbine engine vane erosion sheaths, and missile and rocket wing slot heat shields. With more than 40,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space, our facility is recognized as one of the largest and most technologically advanced electroforming operations in the industry.
We are seeking a hands-on Finishing / Grinding Technician to join our manufacturing team and support the production of precision electroformed components that meet the highest quality standards.
Position Summary
The Finishing / Grinding Technician is responsible for grinding, polishing, sanding, and finishing electroformed metal components to precise customer and engineering specifications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, dimensional accuracy, and cosmetic requirements are achieved prior to shipment.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform grinding, polishing, sanding, deburring, and finishing operations on electroformed metal components.
- Utilize abrasives, pneumatic tools, electric grinders, buffing wheels, stroke sanders, and related finishing equipment.
- Read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, travelers, work orders, and machining instructions to determine product requirements and operational sequences.
- Inspect finished components to verify compliance with dimensional, cosmetic, and quality specifications.
- Utilize measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and related inspection tools.
- Follow AS9100 quality requirements, manufacturing procedures, and customer specifications.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area in accordance with company safety standards and 6S practices.
- Support cross-training initiatives and assist in multiple manufacturing areas as needed.
- Communicate production issues, quality concerns, and improvement opportunities to supervisors and team members.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards while meeting production schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Comply with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Quality, and company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Manufacturing, metal finishing, grinding, polishing, fabrication, machining, or related production experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using electric or pneumatic grinders, buffing wheels, stroke sanders, or similar finishing equipment.
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, metal finishing, machining, fabrication, or precision manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience working with technical drawings or blueprints.
