The Machine Operator I (Set-Up Operator) is responsible for setting up and operating fabrication equipment, primarily punch press machines, to produce high-quality parts that meet established production standards. This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to quality expectations while supporting overall departmental productivity and workflow.
Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including punch press machines, according to job specifications and production requirements.

Review and interpret blueprints, job routers, and production schedules to ensure accurate part production.

Perform in-process inspections using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments.

Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency standards.

Maintain established production rates while ensuring quality requirements are consistently met.

Identify and report defects in raw materials or finished products to the Team Lead or Supervisor immediately.

Complete required documentation related to production, quality, and inventory control.

Safely move materials throughout the department using manual and powered equipment (e.g., carts, pallet jacks).

Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with 5S and safety standards.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of experience setting up and operating punch press or similar fabrication equipment.

Proficiency in using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job routers, and production documentation.

Basic shop math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time.

Ability to lift, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally and lighter weights frequently.

Frequent use of hands for handling, reaching, and operating machinery.

Exposure to a manufacturing environment, including noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures.

Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
