Position Title: Residential Aid
Location: [Grand Rapids, Michigan]
Reports To: Facility Manager/Administrator
Job Summary: The Residential Aid provides essential support and assistance to residents in an adult foster care setting, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life. This role involves direct interaction with residents who may have physical or mental health challenges, requiring a compassionate and patient approach. The Residential Aid will assist with daily living activities, scheduling, promote independence, and facilitate social engagement among residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care Assistance:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Monitor residents’ personal hygiene and provide support as needed.
- Medication Management:
- Assist residents in taking prescribed medications as per the established medication management plan.
- Maintain accurate records of medication administration and report any concerns to the supervising nurse or administrator.
- Safety and Well-Being:
- Ensure a safe living environment by adhering to safety protocols and conducting regular checks on residents.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents involving residents.
- Social Engagement:
- Facilitate recreational activities that promote socialization and mental stimulation among residents.
- Encourage participation in community outings and events to enhance quality of life.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of resident care, including daily logs of activities, incidents, and changes in health status.
- Report any significant changes in resident behavior or condition to the appropriate staff members.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members regarding care plans and resident needs.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss resident progress and care strategies.
Training and Compliance:
- Attend required training sessions related to adult foster care standards set forth by the State of Michigan.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined by the facility as well as state regulations governing adult foster care services.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in healthcare or social services is preferred.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or elderly populations is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate demeanor towards residents.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Basic knowledge of first aid/CPR is preferred; certification may be required upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with caregiving duties.
Work Environment:
- The position requires working in a residential setting where you may encounter various emotional situations due to the nature of the population served.

Salary: $15 - $20 per hour
Shift Availability: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Shift – Weekends
