Base Operations Team Member – Job Description
A Team Member at Abel Fire Equipment is the foundation of our operations - the driving force behind every deployment, build, and project. Team Members work hands-on in the yard and in the field to prepare, maintain, and deploy equipment critical to supporting our operations and basecamps across the country.
This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. Every tent built, trailer moved, toilet pumped, or generator placed contributes directly to AFE’s readiness and reputation. Team Members are expected to follow direction from Team Leaders and management, work efficiently with others, and take pride in delivering high-quality, professional results that stand up in the toughest environments.
Must also be able to support jobs in the field. This means being able to deploy to at least 70% of jobs when asked, and stay for at least 2 weeks. All positions must understand and be willing to support all other divisions if and when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and maintenance of all AFE assets including tents, office trailers, light towers, toilets, and other mobile infrastructure.Prepare and stage equipment in the yard for deployment, ensuring items are clean, organized, and operational.
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers safely and efficiently.
- Support inventory control efforts by accurately labeling, organizing, and restocking materials.
- Perform basic cleaning and maintenance on equipment and work areas.
- Ability to staff job sites for extended amounts of time
Safety & Readiness
- Follow all AFE safety protocols, wearing proper PPE and using correct lifting techniques at all times.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards to a Team Leader, Project Manager, or directly to Leadership.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and take personal responsibility for your own readiness.
- Keep vehicles, tools, and equipment in clean and functional condition.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings in active work zones, including heavy equipment operations.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with your assigned crew under the direction of a Team Leader or Project Manager.
- Communicate clearly, using AFE’s three-way communication standard to confirm understanding and completion of tasks.
- Support your teammates - offer help when needed and stay engaged until the job is complete.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude, representing AFE with respect and integrity on every site.
Accountability & Quality
- Take ownership of every task assigned and complete it with care and attention to detail.
- Verify work meets AFE’s standards before calling it complete.Follow all instructions accurately and ask questions when uncertain.
- Stay organized, efficient, and proactive - use downtime productively to assist with cleanup or preparation for the next task.
Qualifications
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow directions and work safely as part of a team.
- Capable of physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long hours, and working outdoors in varying conditions.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record.
- Experience in construction, equipment setup, logistics, or emergency response is preferred but not required.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
