The Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP) instructs middle and high school students in math or English in an accelerated manner. Each student takes two years of a high school subject in one year on campus one afternoon per week. Our teachers instruct the students in a manner similar to teaching a college class, just with younger students.
During the school year, the math teacher is required to teach one class of Algebra I/Algebra II. The class meets one afternoon per week and the teacher is responsible for class preparation, class management, grading homework, homework scheduling, and individual assistance as deemed appropriate. The day of the week will be Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. ATYP follows the Kalamazoo Public School schedule for winter and spring breaks (not WMU's calendar).
More information about ATYP can be found on our website at http://www.wmich.edu/precollege/atyp.
