Registered Nurse: Narragansett Indian Health Center opening for full-time, exempt RN for the position of Community Health/Public Health Nurse Supervisor. (40 hrs./wk. M-F 8:30A to 5:00P with one hour lunch - hours occasionally change due due to early/late meetings/trainings/programs but work week is 40 hrs. and daily schedule can be adjusted to remain within those hours)
APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE FOLLOWING SELECTIVE FACTORS ARE INELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States and ability to obtain and RI RN License. You must have a Associates Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in Nursing and a Registered Nurse license. A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a RN preferably in a public health or community health center setting. Two (2) years’ experience in public or community health nursing. Verbal and written communication and organizational skills; ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees.
REQUIREMENTS: Education: Degree/diploma from professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. RI CDOE/Certified Diabetes Outpatient Educator REQUIRED within 1 year of employment. NIHC covers the cost. Current active Driver’s License. Must be able to be credentialed for billing public/private ins. Position subject to comprehensive background investigation including fingerprint check and drug Screen.
Responsibilities include: Identify/manage delivery of public health services throughout the community; Home visits/assessments, plan, implement and oversee individual/group conferences, teach through demonstration; Identify needed resources and refer individuals to full-range available health services and resources; Provide individuals/families/communities comprehensive nursing services on health promotion/ illness prevention; Provide health counseling for patients/families with a variety of health problems, including diabetes; Assist pts understanding/accepting, adjusting to implications/responsibilities of medical care / diagnosis/treatment; Gaining individuals/ families cooperation; Provide program of care by counseling pts/conducting assessments; Initiate/monitor EHR audits; Provide successful supervision; case management; Plans/implements/evaluates all aspects of the Office of Community Health Service Program; Collaborates/coordinates programs with other health agencies on/off reservation; Promotes personal/professional staff development/growth that advance staff competency to ensure quality patient (pt) outcomes/safety; Implement/participate in performance improvement program/activities that improve/promote pt outcomes/ safety/risk management. Responsibilities include Community Health Education and Programs planning, Emergency Program Planning, Diabetic Audit, Diabetic Grant Writing and Reporting etc. Collaborates with internal and external agencies to develop partnerships for expanding the capacity of NIHC Health and Human Services. Participates in planning, implementing, coordinating and conducting programs, drafting policies or objectives for the Community Health office. Must be able to fill-in for the medical clinic nurses when needed to cover absences like vacations, etc.
