Position Summary
The 2nd Shift Foreman is responsible for overseeing nightly production activities and supervising a team of 6-8 employees in a steel fabrication environment. This position ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to company quality standards while managing all shipping and packaging operations for outgoing orders.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, leadership ability, attention to detail, and experience in fabrication and shipping operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production & Team Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of 6-8 production employees during 2nd shift operations.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor workflow to ensure production goals are met.
- Train employees on proper procedures, safety standards, and quality expectations.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Monitor employee performance and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Communicate production issues, delays, or quality concerns to management.
Shipping & Packaging Responsibilities
- Oversee all shipping activities for outgoing customer orders.
- Ensure all material is packaged properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify all shipping paperwork, packing slips, and documentation are accurate and complete.
- Confirm all materials and components are properly attributed to the correct customer orders.
- Coordinate shipment schedules to meet delivery deadlines.
- Inspect completed orders prior to shipment for accuracy and quality.
- Work with office and production personnel to resolve shipping discrepancies.
Inventory & Material Handling
- Verify quantities and materials against work orders and shipping documentation.
- Ensure proper labeling and tracking of outgoing materials.
- Assist with loading and unloading shipments as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of shipping and staging areas.
General Responsibilities
- Foster a strong culture of safety and quality in all work areas.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Perform other related duties as assigned by division and/or Corporate management.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher level of education is preferred.
Experience and Certifications
- Previous experience in a steel fabrication environment preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of shipping procedures, packaging methods, and inventory tracking.
- Ability to read work orders, packing slips, and production documentation.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with shipping or ERP systems preferred.
- Forklift experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Dependable with strong attendance record.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
