Landscape CAD Drafter
Part-Time 1099 Contract Position | Boulder County, Colorado
East County Design is a boutique residential landscape design studio specializing in thoughtfully designed, plant-forward landscapes throughout Boulder County and the Denver metro area. We create beautiful, highly functional outdoor spaces that emphasize sustainability, low-water landscapes, and exceptional attention to detail.
We're looking for a detail-oriented Landscape CAD Drafter to join our growing team. This is a flexible, part-time contract position ideal for someone who enjoys technical drafting, appreciates thoughtful design, and is interested in growing their knowledge of residential landscapes.
This position is focused primarily on drafting and technical documentation. The principal designer develops the overall design concepts, layouts, materials, and planting plans, while the CAD Drafter translates those ideas into clear, accurate AutoCAD drawings and construction documents.
As a small, collaborative studio, you'll work directly alongside the principal designer and gain firsthand exposure to every stage of the design process—from initial site visits through final construction documentation.
Position Details
- Independent Contractor (1099)
- Approximately 5–15 hours per week
- Flexible schedule
- Must be able to travel to the East County Design office 3–4 times per month
- Must be willing to travel to project sites throughout Boulder County and the Denver metro area for field measurements, site verification, and existing conditions documentation
Responsibilities
- Translate hand sketches, redlines, and design concepts into accurate AutoCAD drawings
- Prepare presentation-quality and construction-ready landscape plans
- Revise drawings throughout the design process as projects evolve
- Visit project sites to verify dimensions and document existing conditions
- Work closely with the principal designer to ensure drawings accurately reflect the design intent
- Maintain organized drawing files and project documentation
- Assist with basic research and project support as needed
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated professional proficiency in AutoCAD
- Excellent drafting and technical drawing skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to accurately interpret sketches, markups, and verbal direction
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to local project sites
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with residential landscape architecture, landscape design, civil drafting, or related fields
- Familiarity with planting plans, hardscape layouts, grading, or irrigation plans
- Knowledge of Front Range Colorado landscape construction is a plus
- Interest in plants, horticulture, or residential landscape design
