Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Field Superintendent and Estimator to work alongside the Project Manager in overseeing construction projects from pre-construction through completion, ensuring safety, quality, and efficient field execution. This role combines hands-on construction site supervision with accurate estimating and field assessments. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive construction experience, and the ability to accurately assess project requirements while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations, supervising crews to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and construction plans to guide field execution.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather measurements for estimating purposes.
- Prepare accurate labor and material estimates.
- Develop detailed material lists and research appropriate products and suppliers for each project. Provide material recommendations, specifications, estimated lead times, and purchasing options to the Project Manager for procurement.
- Identify field conditions that may impact labor, materials, scheduling, or constructability and communicate findings to the Project Manager.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and quality standards.
- Monitor workmanship and verify that construction activities meet project specifications and applicable building codes.
- Maintain daily field reports documenting project progress, manpower, equipment, and site conditions.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and scope verification during the estimating process.
- Support the Project Manager by providing field expertise during project planning and execution.
- Utilize testing equipment, such as an ohmmeter, when required for projects involving electrical systems.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment while maintaining professionalism and a strong safety culture.
Skills
- Extensive experience supervising construction sites in residential, commercial, restoration, or heavy civil construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating principles and experience using HeavyBid or similar estimating software.
- Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and construction documents.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
- Experience preparing detailed material takeoffs and developing comprehensive material lists.
- Knowledge of building materials, product applications, and supplier sourcing.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to identify constructability challenges and recommend practical field solutions.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Procore, or other construction software is preferred.
- Knowledge of pipeline installation procedures is a plus for applicable projects.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Project Manager and field personnel.
