Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers on over-the-road (OTR) routes while adhering to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to ensure timely deliveries across multiple destinations.
- Load and unload freight with proper manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo safety and compliance with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify truck condition, including checking for hazards related to hazardous materials or dangerous goods.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and cargo documentation in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch teams to coordinate route adjustments or address unforeseen issues during deliveries.
- Ensure proper handling of special cargo such as hazardous materials or sensitive freight like automobile transportation equipment.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the type of truck operated (e.g., Hazmat endorsement if applicable).
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving within logistics cargo handling environments.
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety procedures related to truck loading/unloading and manual handling.
- Experience with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or specialized freight is preferred.
- Strong navigation skills utilizing GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning on OTR routes.
- Ability to handle manual loading/unloading tasks safely while complying with safety standards for dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safety and compliance; familiarity with truck driving best practices for freight transportation.
