Job Title: On-Site Transportation Manager

Job Summary
The On-Site Transportation Manager oversees day-to-day yard operations, fleet movement, and employee coordination. This role requires a hands-on leader who bridges the gap between night and day shifts, manages real-time carrier needs, maintains critical digital records, and directly interfaces with our primary customer, Domtar. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who is equally comfortable auditing spreadsheets, troubleshooting scale system issues, or hopping into a spotter truck when the need arises.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Shift Coordination
- Shift Handover: Debrief with the night shift to resolve operational issues and audit trailer-loading efficiency.
- Yard Management: Conduct physical inventory checks, reconcile digital yard sheets, and email official reports to Domtar.
- Administrative Tracking: Inputs spotter movement data into master spreadsheets and audit daily payroll records.
- Driver & Guard Support: Resolve driver paperwork errors, locate misplaced trailers, and manually reset the scale house system during malfunctions.
- Compliance & Logistics: Print and distribute trailer reject lists for the Woodfield mechanic; deliver completed night shift dock check sheets to the shipping clerk.
Leadership & Operational Support
- Oversight: Inspect work quality and ensure spotter drivers adhere to safety and productivity standards. Managing on-site employees including driver training support and disciplinary items.
- Conduct regular safety meetings: To address company matters and standards.
- Emergency Coverage: Act as the primary operational backup. Personally run the inspection desk or operate the spot truck if yard personnel call in sick.
- Communication: Maintain constant email communication with Domtar and Serv Tran to ensure client satisfaction.
- Availability: Maintain a strict 24/7 on-call status, with the flexibility to work irregular hours or cover night shifts during emergencies.
Weekly & Monthly Mandates
- Client Relations: Attend the weekly Domtar operational meeting every Wednesday at 8:30 AM.
- Supply Chain: Conduct weekly physical walks to audit and order necessary supplies from the Domtar storeroom.
- Compliance Archiving: Manage the monthly rotation of inspector cabinet paperwork and submit 3-month-old inspection sheets to the shipping clerk.
- Safety Auditing: Conduct and sign off on monthly fire extinguisher safety check cards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Experience within the trucking transportation, yard management, or logistics operations is preferred.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, payroll systems, and digital inventory reporting.
- Licenses: Valid CDL or prior experience operating a spotter/yard truck is highly preferred, BUT NOT REQUIRED.
- Attributes: High adaptability, strong communication skills, and a "leads-by-example" work ethic.
- Flexibility: Must tolerate a 24/7 on-call schedule and potential shift rotations.
Pay: $25,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
