Job Title: LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICIAN HS
POSITION SUMMARY:
The job of Library Technician is done for the purpose of maintaining library collection and controlling technology equipment at school site; assisting students in utilizing library resources; performing clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Keeps track of Library Media Center supplies and equipment. Assists students in locating library resources. Guides student assistants in performing their assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists district staff and students for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom, class assignments, and/or recreational reading.
- Coordinates scheduling of students, teachers, and technical support personnel for the purpose of maintaining library and Chromebook inventory.
- Directs student workers and volunteers for the purpose of guiding and monitoring work activities.
- Distributes various library books and media equipment for the purpose of providing requested classroom materials.
- Inventories library books, equipment, and materials for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials and an up-to-date collection.
- Maintains materials inventory (library books, library software, media equipment and related instructional materials) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials as required.
- Monitors student activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
- Instructs students and teachers for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library resources and/or complementing classroom instruction with various software applications and the use of computer technology.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance of media and in-library computer equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Prepares various reports and documents (circulation reports, inventory, etc).
- Processes library books, periodicals, software and related library media center materials.
- Processes notices of missing, damaged or overdue books, media, and materials for the purpose of securing reimbursement for losses in line with district policy.
- Processes orders for library books, periodicals, videos, films, etc. for the purpose of maintaining library/video collection controls.
- Repairs books and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books and library materials.
- Responds to verbal and written inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or referral to appropriate source.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of library systems and procedures
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills (Destiny, Google Drive, research engines, etc)
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work harmoniously with others
- Ability to be self directed and ability to multi task
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities, including serving as back up.
- Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
