Duties
- Perform detailed ophthalmic patient examinations using advanced diagnostic imaging equipment and tonometry devices to assess eye health.
- Diagnose and manage various eye conditions, including refractive errors, ocular diseases, and disease states related to vision health.
- Conduct ophthalmic consultations, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care strategies.
- Fit and evaluate contact lenses for patients of all ages, including pediatric populations, ensuring optimal comfort and vision correction.
- Operate medical equipment safely and accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques to maintain patient safety and hygiene standards.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust therapies as needed for improved patient outcomes.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of optometry principles, including ocular anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Proven experience with optical equipment operation, ophthalmic diagnostic imaging tools, tonometry devices, and contact lens fitting techniques.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye health and general healthcare diagnosis.
- Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for accurate record keeping and medical coding practices.
- Excellent client communication skills to educate patients effectively about their eye health and treatment options.
- Ability to perform precise ophthalmic examinations while maintaining high standards of patient care and customer service.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and security of medical records at all times.
