Under the direction of the Fitness Program Manager, and in collaboration with the Directors of Sports, Fitness & Aquatics, the Personal Trainer conducts fitness assessments and develops personalized training programs for clients. This position is responsible for developing fitness programs that meet the individual needs of each client. Responsibilities include ensuring equipment is used safely and appropriately, motivating clients to reach their goals, and fostering positive relationships with JCC members and staff.
DUTIES:
- Establishing and growing a client base.
- Scheduling and conducting orientations.
- Providing individualized training sessions tailored to attainable goals.
- Observing clients to ensure they are performing exercises correctly.
- Staying current on training credentials to ensure clients are always getting the most of their workout experience.
- Monitoring client progress and adapting programs as needed.
- Referring participants to professionals with appropriate training and expertise beyond your scope of knowledge.
- Promoting additional workouts and fitness classes within the offering of the LFJCC.
- Developing relationships and encouraging member referrals.
- Answering and offering suggestions to members who are not your clients.
- Developing and maintaining relationships based on trust and service.
- Working effectively with a wide variety of people, staff and community.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years Personal Training experience preferred.
- Possess and maintain a current personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization such as ACE, NASM, ISSA, AFAA, NFPT, NETA, ACSM etc.
- Strong knowledge of exercise science, anatomy, and physiology.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications must stay current.
- Ability to maintain and coordinate client schedules, fostering positive client relationships and experiences.
- Ability to adapt training programs to accommodate different fitness levels and abilities.
- Self-motivated.
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Dependable, patient, friendly, cheerful and professional.
- Strong problem solving skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must move easily around the fitness center, gymnasium, building, deck, swimming pool and field.
- Frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms for long periods of time.
- Frequently required to use hands, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Regularly required to communicate.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be physically fit to the level of demonstrating the movements and assisting clients and members.
- Must be able to lift and or move up to 40 lbs. as required.
