Job Summary
.he Content Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing clear, credible, and engaging content that educates stakeholders, supports affordable housing initiatives, and advances the organization’s solutions and services. This role translates complex housing programs, policies, technologies, and business value into accessible, audience‑appropriate content that builds trust with housing agencies, partners, and community stakeholders.
This is a content‑led role with strategic contribution, not a senior marketing leadership, product ownership, or sales quota position.
Responsibilities
1. Content Strategy & Planning (Content‑Focused)
- Develop and maintain a content strategy and editorial roadmap aligned to company priorities, affordable housing initiatives, and program cycles.
- Analyze business unit goals and market needs to identify content opportunities, themes, and formats.
- Plan content deliverables tied to funding cycles, regulatory changes, product releases, and outreach initiatives.
- Create basic project plans and proposals for content initiatives (e.g., campaigns, reports, educational series).
Scope boundary: This role contributes to content strategy but does not own overall marketing, brand, or go‑to‑market strategy.
2. Content Development & Storytelling
Create high‑quality, stakeholder‑appropriate content, including but not limited to:
- Blog articles and explainers
- Educational guides and how‑to resources
- White papers and issue briefs
- Case studies and success stories
- Email newsletters and campaign content
- Social media copy and campaigns
- Video scripts and webinar materials
- Presentations and internal/external collateral
- Develop content for website pages, landing pages, and resource centers to support program education and business initiatives.
Key expectations:
- Translate technical, regulatory, and policy‑heavy information into clear, accurate, and compelling narratives.
- Tailor tone and complexity for different audiences (technical vs. non‑technical).
- Ensure content accuracy through collaboration with subject‑matter experts.
3. Educational & Trust‑Building Content Formats
The role must be capable of producing content in the following formats to educate, engage, and build confidence with stakeholders:
Educational Content
- Explainer articles (e.g., “What is LIHTC?”, “How Section 8 Works”)
- Housing program glossaries and jargon guides
- Step‑by‑step how‑to resources for agencies, partners, or residents
Data‑Driven & Impact Content
- Case studies highlighting program or partnership outcomes
- Impact reports combining narrative, metrics, and testimonials
- Infographics visualizing data such as funding structures, waitlists, or outcomes
Multimedia & Engagement
- Video testimonials and short educational videos
- Webinar and virtual event content
- Social media storytelling campaigns
- Email newsletters segmented by audience
Interactive / Digital Support (Collaborative)
- Content support for calculators, eligibility tools, or dashboards
- (conceptual content only; technical development handled elsewhere)
4. Infographic & Visual Content Standards
The role is expected to create or collaborate on engaging infographics that support storytelling. Core principles include:
- Clear single‑message focus
- Strong narrative structure (problem → solution → impact)
- Effective data visualization
- Brand and visual consistency
- Accessibility (contrast, readability, inclusive imagery)
- Design optimized for sharing and mobile consumption
- Clear call‑to‑action
Scope boundary: The role produces visuals using tools like Canva or works with designers; it does not replace a full graphic designer.
SEO, Accessibility & Distribution (Updated)
- Optimize content for SEO, readability, and accessibility
- Publish and manage content within CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
- Coordinate distribution across website, email, and social channels
- Ensure website content is current, accurate, and aligned with programs, services, and messaging
- Support updates to page content, structure, and layout to improve clarity and user experience
6. Performance Tracking & Continuous Improvement
- Track content performance using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, CRM platforms).
- Monitor engagement, usage, and reach by audience.
- Adjust content approach based on data, stakeholder feedback, and business needs.
- Provide periodic performance summaries and insights.
7. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with business units, product teams, service teams, and housing experts.
- Translate product features or process details into clear business and program benefits.
- Support internal alignment by creating shared messaging, presentations, and summaries.
- Participate in content reviews with policy, compliance, or leadership stakeholders as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in content marketing, communications, or related roles.
- Strong writing and editing skills with proven ability to explain complex topics clearly.
- Familiarity with affordable housing programs, terminology, and stakeholder environments.
- Experience with CMS platforms, SEO principles, and analytics tools.
- Experience updating and managing website content within a CMS (e.g., WordPress)
- Experience creating content for email and social media platforms.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
