Project Engineer I - Sustainability

Project Support Services (PSS) is seeking an experienced Project Engineer I - Sustainability to support the Los Angeles Community College District's BuildLACCD Sustainability Team.
This position provides technical and administrative support for sustainability and energy-related capital improvement projects throughout LACCD. The Project Engineer supports projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, implementation, commissioning, and closeout.
Working under the direction of the Sustainability Strike Team Lead, the Project Engineer coordinates with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and District personnel; helps resolve technical issues; and maintains accurate project records and documentation.
The ideal candidate is a project or construction professional with experience supporting major commercial, public, or educational facility projects and a strong interest in energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and carbon reduction.

What You'll Do
· Provide technical and engineering support to project managers and the sustainability team throughout all phases of assigned projects.
· Support District sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and carbon-reduction strategies.
· Assist with Energy Information Systems (EIS), Building Management Systems (BMS), central plant optimization, LED lighting upgrades, energy-efficiency retrofits, renewable energy systems, microgrids, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
· Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and District personnel to resolve technical issues.
· Support the preparation of accurate responses to requests for information (RFIs).
· Maintain and distribute current contract plans and specifications.
· Confirm contractor maintenance of record drawings before monthly progress payments.
· Conduct field checks to determine compliance with plans, specifications, established College standards, and Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements.
· Document project progress through photographs, daily reports, field notes, and other required records.
· Log and track change-order proposals, field orders, approved change orders, submittals, and RFIs.
· Maintain project files and record drawings; prepare correspondence, reports, procedures, guidelines, and stakeholder meeting minutes.
· Assist with the review of submittal procedures and monthly invoices, and perform other bond-eligible project support duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, Construction Management, or a related field.
· Minimum of three years of experience in a similar or equivalent project- or construction-management position.
· Experience supporting commercial, public, or educational facility construction projects valued more than $15 million.
· Knowledge of construction plans, specifications, record drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change documentation.
· Ability to conduct field observations and document compliance with project requirements and established standards.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate, organized project records.
· Ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, design professionals, contractors, District personnel, and other stakeholders.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
We're especially interested in candidates with experience in:
· Building Information Modeling (BIM)
· The Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction and design process
· Public-agency or educational-facility capital improvement programs
· Energy Information Systems (EIS) and Building Management Systems (BMS)
· Energy-efficiency retrofits, electrification, or carbon-reduction projects
· Renewable energy systems, microgrids, or electric vehicle charging infrastructure
· Construction field observation and compliance documentation
· Submittals, RFIs, change orders, record drawings, and project controls
· Commissioning and closeout of sustainability or energy-related projects
· Commercial, public, or educational construction projects valued above $15 million

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
