Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct supervision and support to participants residing in the Recovery Housing Program. The BHT helps maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented living environment by monitoring participant safety, enforcing house rules, conducting safety checks, responding to incidents, and supporting daily residential operations.
Working closely with Care Coordinators, Certified Recovery Peer Specialists, and program staff, the BHT promotes participant accountability, recovery engagement, housing stability, and overall program compliance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and monitor participant safety, behavior, and well-being.
- Maintain participant accountability through attendance, curfew, sign-in/sign-out procedures, and daily house routines.
- Conduct scheduled safety rounds, wellness checks, and house inspections.
- Administer drug screenings and breathalyzer tests in accordance with program policies.
- Respond to emergencies, behavioral incidents, and crises using appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Document participant activities, incidents, observations, and shift reports in a timely manner.
- Promote a positive, recovery-oriented living environment and encourage participant engagement in treatment and recovery activities.
- Communicate participant concerns and collaborate with program staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain compliance with program policies, confidentiality requirements, FARR standards, HIPAA, and applicable organizational procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, shift change communications, training, and quality improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Human Services, Behavioral Health, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- At least one year of experience in behavioral health, recovery housing, residential services, substance use treatment, mental health, corrections, or a related human services field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and young adults is preferred.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain participant safety, accountability, and house structure throughout each shift.
- Complete required documentation before the end of each shift.
- Conduct required safety rounds and wellness checks.
- Respond appropriately to participant emergencies and incidents.
- Support participant recovery, housing stability, and program compliance.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff to promote successful participant outcomes.
Work Environment
This position is based within residential recovery housing and requires standing, walking, monitoring participants, and responding to emergencies. Evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
