American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and an active MO or compact RN license.

ICU position within a large, short-term acute care hospital (1,259 staffed beds) designated as a Magnet facility, teaching hospital, and Level I Trauma Center

Patient population includes pre- and post-op cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgery patients, medicine and neuro-medicine overflow, pre- and post-transplant patients, and end-of-life/organ donation cases

Common diagnoses include respiratory failure/ARDS, acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, and sepsis

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2

Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)

Every other weekend required
-
No on-call required
-
Floating required within service line to other ICU units

Charting via Epic (experience required)

Specialized equipment includes IV pumps/titration, CRRT/dialysis, ventilators/BiPAP, hemodynamic/invasive monitoring, and defibrillator/crash cart

Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week

Block scheduling is not available

Active MO RN license or compact RN license currently in hand (pending IL license may be accepted — note at time of consideration)

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required

Medical and surgical ICU experience required

Required clinical skills include: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, multisystem organ dysfunction/failure management, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition, CVP and Swan-Ganz/pulmonary artery line monitoring, arterial line management, CRRT/dialysis, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, continuous IV sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, CVA/acute stroke management, BiPAP management, ventilator management, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, surgical wound/wound vac care, phlebotomy, and infection prevention/PPE protocols

Epic EMR experience required

First-time travelers are not eligible for this position

Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted

RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation

Travelers may remain on assignment for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
-
Former permanent employees of the health system must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
-
Navy scrubs are required

Holiday and charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
