Position Summary
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) requires one (1) Editor to review and manage written materials intended for public release. The Editor will ensure content is clear, accurate, consistent, and compliant with applicable editorial, command, privacy, and release requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of professional editing, copyediting, technical writing, or related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and Associated Press (AP) Style.
- Experience reviewing medical, healthcare, military, government, public policy, or other technical content.
- Experience in healthcare communications, military/public affairs, government, or a similar regulated environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and safeguarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Experience managing editorial workflows, calendars, and multi-author publications.
- Strong attention to detail, fact-checking, research, and source-verification skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, edit, and proofread articles, reports, web content, leadership messaging, publications, and other materials intended for public release.
- Ensure content meets requirements for clarity, accuracy, grammar, AP Style, command standards, and applicable release requirements.
- Fact-check claims, statistics, medical information, and source materials in coordination with subject matter experts.
- Manage editorial schedules, document tracking, revisions, reviews, and approval workflows.
- Coordinate feedback among authors, subject matter experts, legal counsel, Public Affairs personnel, and leadership.
- Maintain and apply organizational editorial and style guidance to promote consistency across communications.
- Safeguard PHI and other sensitive information throughout the editorial and review process.
- Prepare finalized materials and coordinate required clearance and approval before public release.
Salary commensurate with qualifications.
