Position Summary:
Mechanics are responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of equipment and vehicles used in utility construction, including trucks, trailers, excavators, directional drills, and other specialized machinery.

Key Responsibilities:
o Inspect, maintain, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy construction equipment such as:
o Bucket trucks, digger derricks, service trucks
o Excavators, skid steers, backhoes, trenchers, and drills
o Trailers and other utility transport equipment
o Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, brake inspections, and battery tests.
o Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and manufacturer software.
o Complete in-field repairs on job sites when necessary to reduce equipment downtime.
- Documentation and Compliance
o Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all fleet and equipment.
o Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
o Track and manage inventory of parts and tools; communicate parts needs to the purchasing team.
o Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles per DOT requirements.
- Shop Operations and Safety
o Operate within a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
o Follow lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols during repairs.
o Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
o Support implementation of fleet maintenance schedules and best practices.

Required Qualifications:
- Education & Certification:
o High School Diploma or GED
o Valid Class A Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
o Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience with heavy trucks, utility equipment, or construction equipment.
o Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, diesel engines, and emissions systems.

- Technical or vocational certification
- OSHA 10 certification

Skills & Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic software, and vehicle lifts.
- Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Work Environment:
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand for long periods, bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Work is performed both in the shop and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- May require occasional travel to field job sites or emergency after-hours support.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly, and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, climb, kneel, squat, crawl, and lie under vehicles or equipment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Capable of operating heavy machinery and shop equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, awkward positions, and at varying heights.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision work and diagnostics.
