Title: Special Inspector Coordinator
Schedule - M-F, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Position Summary
The Special Inspections Coordinator serves as McKissack's on-site representative responsible for coordinating and overseeing all Special Inspection activities performed by contracted Special Inspection Agencies. This position ensures inspections are properly scheduled, performed, documented, and communicated in accordance with the NYC Building Code, project specifications, and McKissack procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspection Coordination
Coordinate daily Special Inspection requests with the General Contractor and Special Inspection Agencies.
Review upcoming construction activities to ensure required inspections are scheduled.
Maintain the daily inspection schedule and resolve scheduling conflicts.
Verify inspectors are assigned and available for all required inspections
Review and approve all daily inspection requests submitted by the General Contractor by 2:00 PM for next-day work.
Verify the appropriate Special Inspection Agency and inspector are assigned to each activity.
Review daily field reports for completeness before distribution to the Owner, General Contractor, Engineer of Record, and project team.
Maintain the Special Inspection dashboard, including pending inspections, open deficiencies, and upcoming critical activities.
Coordinate inspections for concrete placements, pile installation, deep foundations, structural steel, welding, reinforcing steel, geotechnical testing, soil augmentation, and utility work.
Support project closeout by ensuring all inspection reports, test results, and DOB documentation are complete and organized for final acceptance.
Field Oversight
Monitor field activities to ensure required Special Inspections are performed.
Verify inspection coverage aligns with project schedules and construction activities.
Identify missed inspections or deficiencies and coordinate corrective action.
Serve as McKissack's field representative for Special Inspection activities.
Monitor inspector performance and recommend corrective actions or replacement of inspectors when performance does not meet project standards.
Documentation and Reporting
Review daily Special Inspection reports for accuracy and completeness.
Maintain inspection logs, tracking reports, and project documentation.
Distribute inspection reports to project stakeholders.
Track deficiencies, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions through resolution.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Ensure Special Inspection activities comply with NYC DOB requirements, approved construction documents, project specifications, and applicable codes.
Monitor progress of TR inspections and required documentation through project closeout.
Support final inspection sign-offs and Certificate of Occupancy requirements.
Coordination and Communication
Serve as the primary liaison between McKissack, the Owner, General Contractor, Design Team, Testing Laboratories, and Special Inspection Agencies.
Participate in coordination meetings and provide updates on inspection status, outstanding issues, and upcoming inspection requirements.
Assist project management with inspection planning, scheduling, and quality control initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5-years of experience in construction inspection, quality assurance, or Special Inspections.
Experience with NYC DOB Special Inspection requirements preferred.
Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and inspection reports.
Certifications
OSHA 30 a must.
Preferred but not required
ICC Special Inspector certifications
ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent (preferred)
Skills
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Procore or similar construction management software. Familiar with Share file programs
Ability to manage multiple inspection activities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple inspection agencies simultaneously

Pay: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
