As an authorized dealer for Blue Bird and Micro Bird buses, we specialize in new bus sales, parts, service, and support for school districts, transportation contractors, assisted living facilities, childcare organizations, MFSAB operators, shuttle services, churches, and Head Start programs.
As a Bus Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of buses. You will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing various mechanical, electrical, and technical components of buses. Your expertise will contribute to the overall performance and reliability of the fleet. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing school buses and commercial vehicles while ensuring all work meets manufacturer and safety standards. This position offers the opportunity to work with traditional diesel and gasoline vehicles as well as the latest electric vehicle (EV) technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Diagnostic Assessments: Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to identify mechanical, electrical, and technical issues in buses.
- Repair and Maintenance: Carry out repairs, replacements, adjustments on buses, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and other components.
- Preventive Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and longevity of buses. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, tire rotations, and other routine services.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Analyze complex problems and utilize technical knowledge to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. This may involve utilizing diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, time spent, and details of the work performed. Generate reports as required.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities adhere to safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies. Comply with relevant laws and regulations, including emissions and safety inspections.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with team members, including mechanics, supervisors, and other technicians, to coordinate repairs, share knowledge, and provide support when necessary.
- Parts and Inventory Management: Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment. Order necessary parts and materials to ensure an adequate supply.
- Training and Development: Stay updated on advancements in bus technology, repair techniques, and industry best practices. Seek opportunities for professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in automotive technology or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive, diesel, gasoline, or electric vehicle maintenance and repair. Proven experience as a Bus Technician or a similar role, with a strong understanding of bus systems and components.
- Solid knowledge of diagnostic tools, equipment, and software used in bus maintenance and repairs.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks, such as lifting heavy parts or equipment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate technical information.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if required).
- Any relevant certifications or licenses are a plus (e.g., ASE certification, CDL).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and work underneath vehicles.
- Ability to lift and move parts and equipment as required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment while maintaining safety standards.
