Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. This vital role involves safely operating various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to transport passengers efficiently and securely. Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and provide support for individuals with mobility challenges or senior care needs.
- Ensure passenger safety by adhering to behavior management protocols and maintaining order onboard.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections, including vehicle codes checks, emergency stop procedures, and vehicle maintenance assessments to guarantee operational safety.
- Respond quickly and effectively to traffic changes or emergencies using defensive driving techniques and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Communicate clearly with passengers, colleagues, and dispatchers in multiple languages if applicable, ensuring smooth coordination throughout routes.
- Perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading equipment or luggage while following proper safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, incidents, and vehicle logs while complying with state and local commercial driving laws.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transportation.
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus driving preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Experience working with children or providing senior care is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform quick responses to traffic changes and manage passenger behavior effectively.
- CPR certification and first aid training are preferred; knowledge of emergency stop procedures is essential.
- Capable of heavy lifting and physical activity associated with loading/unloading equipment or assisting passengers.
- Familiarity with school policies related to student discipline and behavior management is advantageous.
