Commercial Electrical Estimator
Background: R&D Electric. is a Sacramento based electrical contractor working on commercial and industrial electrical projects including Energy Storage, Tenant Improvements, and other electrical projects. We are affiliated with the IBEW and NECA, and work with many local and national prime contractors, developers, and private clients. We are a small business with big projects and have been in business for over a year, and our leadership has over 30 years of combined experience in the electrical trades. ESTIMATING:
Attend site walks, bid reviews and client meetings. Record site details and document job walk with notes and photos for estimating team review.
Business Development with developers, general contractors, subcontractors and all associated vendors.
Track proposals, follow-ups, and feedback from prime contractors and customers.
Prepare weekly updates and review pipeline and progress with the estimating and operations team.
Prepare subcontractor RFPs for scope to be included as defined by specifications, drawings and value engineering. Review subcontractor proposals to make sure all scopes required are covered.
Able to complete electrical takeoffs in bluebeam/ livecount accubid, understand estimating methods, and be able to document takeoff work. Able to understand electrical equipment, specifications, labor requirements, etc. for estimation. Ongoing tracking of labor rates, material costs, local costs and local labor rates, etc.
Manage estimate inputs into project management software. Trimble experience is a plus
Manage quotes and vendor feedback for complete estimates and timelines.
Value engineering and pre-construction RFIs
PRE-CONSTRUCTION AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
attend buy-out/ pre-construction meetings to orient the operations team to project constraints, scope, schedule, budget, etc.
support change orders by estimating changes in work in estimating software, review of SOW, etc.
attend regular operations meetings to support ongoing improvement.
Support PO process and provide documented quotes and alternates to the operations team. Review of POs to validate estimated work matches work in process.
ADMINISTRATION:
Write complete scope letters, proposals, and additions, document all changes, and review cost estimates with direct line manager.
Maintain project documents in up-to-date status, document dialogue with clients and operations team.
Review of company registered bid lists, bid sites, pre-qualifications and bid invitations. On-going increase in bidding opportunities, development of pre-qualifications, review of opportunities, review of needed credentials.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction estimating, preferably within the electrical field.
- Strong knowledge of NEC codes.
- Ability to understand plans and specifications when provided, able to understand project budgets for design build work.
- Proficiency in using estimating software such as acubid, Bluebeam or similar tools.
- Proficiencies with being organized with digital files and file structures.
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
- Familiarity with cost control measures and budgeting processes in construction projects.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred but not required.
Position is full time regular and based in our office in Sacramento, California. This position requires a MNDA between both parties.
