Maintains/achieves certifications and licensure if/as required.
Prevents admittance of unauthorized persons to the premises.
Mentors' students in specific situations when requested by the principal, or designee.
Present and active in the main foyers and hallways of the building welcoming students.
Walk the halls and supervise student bathrooms ensuring that all students arrive to their class.
Reports to the Supervisor or principal any emergency situation which may require police
assistance.
Attends orientation and in-service training sessions relative to rules, regulations, policies, first
aid, conflict resolution and human relations.
Assists school administrators with investigations as assigned.
Physically separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed in
accordance with established guidelines regarding the use of force.
Carries out any other assigned duties, which may be deemed appropriate by the Director of
Operations/designee.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and codes related to building safety and security,
including OSHA, and Electronic Surveillance laws.
Knowledge of security and alarm systems, electronic surveillance, and related safety and
security devices.
Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with
principal, security guards and others.
Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and
others contacted in the course of work.
Ability to maintain a professional, calm and authoritative manner when challenged by students.
Education / Experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful
performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Must possesses a High School Diploma.
Associates Degree in criminal justice desired, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position a must.
Successful experience in safety & security is preferred.
Experience working with adolescents is preferred.
Bilingual – able to speak Spanish is a plus.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
This position does require to work in a standard school building environment.
Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.
