About the Role
We're looking for an experienced and highly qualified math educator to work one-on-one with our homeschooled daughter, an accelerated learner currently working above grade level.
This is not a remedial tutoring position. We're looking for someone who can assess her current mathematical understanding, identify the appropriate starting point, and develop a customized enrichment and acceleration plan that keeps her appropriately challenged and engaged as she progresses.
We are not simply looking for someone to work through a standard grade-level workbook. The ideal candidate will be comfortable adapting instruction to her demonstrated abilities and helping her develop both strong mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills.
Sessions will take place in our home in Eagle Mountain, Utah.
What We're Looking For
- Current or former licensed/certified teacher with significant experience teaching elementary-level mathematics, or equivalent strong qualifications in mathematics and education
- Experience working with gifted, accelerated, or above-grade-level students
- Ability to assess a student's current mathematical understanding and determine an appropriate instructional level
- Comfortable designing or adapting a customized learning plan rather than simply following a generic workbook or grade-level curriculum
- Strong understanding of mathematical concepts and ability to explain them in engaging, age-appropriate ways
- Patient, encouraging, and engaging teaching style suited to a one-on-one homeschool environment
- Reliable transportation and availability for consistent in-person sessions in Eagle Mountain
- Willingness to complete a background check due to the nature of working one-on-one with a minor in our home
