This year long paid position offers a bi-weekly allowance of $857.69 (gross) through AmeriCorps and a unique opportunity to develop your skills in public health, community engagement, and program development while contributing to the well-being of rural populations.
Duties
- Conduct community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about available health services and resources
- Provide culturally sensitive health education on topics such as nutrition, addiction counseling, Medicare, and preventive care
- Assist individuals with navigating healthcare systems, including scheduling appointments and understanding medical terminology
- Collect data on community needs and service utilization to support program planning and improvement efforts
- Support clients through motivational interviewing techniques to promote behavior change and health management
- Collaborate with local organizations to develop programs that address social determinants of health in underserved populations
- Maintain accurate records using electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems and ensure compliance with public health laws and policies
Experience
- Prior experience working with individuals from diverse or underserved communities in a healthcare or social services setting
- Knowledge of public health principles, community engagement strategies, and program development processes
- Strong communication skills for client interaction, public speaking, and written reporting
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools for data collection, documentation, and presentations
- Bilingual abilities are highly valued to effectively serve diverse populations
- Experience in health education, community outreach, or public health program planning is preferred
- Basic life support certification and understanding of medical terminology are advantageous
