Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist – St. Thomas
We are a growing General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Wound Care practice in St. Thomas looking for a reliable and capable Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our team.
This is a 30–40 hour per week position with a mix of clinical responsibilities. The role is a good fit for someone who is comfortable working in a hands-on outpatient setting, can move efficiently between different types of patient care, and takes pride in keeping the clinical side of the office running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs
- Review and update medications, allergies, and medical history
- Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens
- Prepare specimens for processing and transport
- Assist with minor office procedures
- Assist with wound care and dressing changes
- Prepare and turn over exam and procedure rooms
- Maintain clinical supplies and inventory
- Assist with EMR documentation and clinical coordination
- Help support the physicians and other staff with day-to-day patient care
Preferred Experience
- At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant, phlebotomist, CNA, EMT, or in another clinical role is preferred
- Phlebotomy experience
- Experience in surgery, OB/GYN, wound care, primary care, urgent care, or another outpatient practice is a plus
- Familiarity with electronic medical records
Credentials
One or more of the following is preferred:
- Medical Assistant certification such as CMA, RMA, or CCMA
- Phlebotomy certification such as CPT
- Current BLS/CPR certification
Certification is preferred but not required for a candidate with strong clinical experience, good references, and the ability to learn quickly.
About the Position
Because our practice includes General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Wound Care, the work is varied. On any given day, you may be drawing labs, assisting with a procedure, helping with a wound dressing, or preparing a patient for a surgical or gynecologic visit.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, efficient, comfortable with patients, and willing to learn. Being able to work independently and anticipate what needs to be done is especially valuable in our practice.
Schedule: 30–40 hours per week
Location: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
Compensation: $20-25/hr depending on experience
