Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual or automatic transmissions, including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and roll-off trucks within local routes.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment when necessary, ensuring proper cargo handling for logistics cargo and hazardous materials.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to follow designated routes while adjusting for traffic or road conditions.
- Deliver freight accurately and on time to various destinations, including automobile transportation hubs or distribution centers.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or safety concerns related to hazardous or dangerous goods.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with clean driving record; experience with over-the-road (OTR) routes is a plus but not required for local driving roles.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, delivery driving, or related logistics cargo handling roles.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) and ability to handle dangerous goods safely when required.
- Familiarity with truck loading/unloading procedures, including flatbed and tanker operations.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently; experience with forklift operation is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for truck driving.
- Excellent manual handling skills for load & unload tasks; physical ability to lift heavy cargo as needed.
- Effective route planning skills using GPS navigation tools to optimize delivery efficiency within local areas.
