The Operations Assistant will support both the Yard Foreman and Dispatcher with a multitude of responsibilities that will help ensure smooth functioning of yard and delivery operations. The Operations Assistant will be tasked with performing high-priority functions as delegated by the Yard Foreman and/or Dispatcher, as well as conduct analysis to help improve the overall operational efficiency of the company.

- Assist with administrative tasks within the dispatch office including but not limited to inventory receiving, order-taking, delivery updates, etc.

Assist with directing the truck drivers’ workflow using two-way radio. Routes all deliveries to meet committed scheduled timeslots, while attempting to minimize delivery expense costs through coordination.

Ensures truck drivers are in possession of all required paperwork for loads transported to and from the lumberyard, including the shipping copy to be left at the job site.

Help ensure truck drivers perform daily truck inspections according to DOT regulations, including the completion and filing of necessary paperwork.

Responsible for invoicing and reconciling backorders

Assist Drivers navigating to new addresses for new construction sites.

Assist Dispatcher in directing all load puller and truck driver workflow in support of scheduling commitments communicated from customer to outside/inside salespeople when the Dispatcher is unavailable.

Develop solid, positive working relationships with sales personnel and customers.

Fills in for the Yard Foreman or Dispatcher and assumes all required duties in the event of an absence.

Establishes daily communication with outside/inside salespeople, keeping them advised of any changes in status of their customer’s deliveries.
