Safety Manager
Position Summary
Cen Cal Builders and Developers is seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Manager to lead and oversee our company safety program. The Safety Manager will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, and supporting safe, healthy, and productive job sites across all projects.
This position requires a hands-on leader who can work effectively with field personnel, project managers, subcontractors, insurance partners, and executive leadership to identify risks, drive corrective actions, and continuously improve workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s safety policies, programs, procedures, and written IIPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Program).
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Conduct and document regular jobsite inspections, toolbox talks, JHA/JSA (Job Hazard Analysis / Job Safety Analysis) reviews, and pre-task safety planning.
- Identify workplace hazards, recommend corrective actions, and track corrective action items through completion.
- Serve as the primary company safety contact for jobsite incidents, including incident response, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and preservation of supporting documentation.
- Coordinate workers’ compensation claims with management, HR, brokers, insurance carriers, TPA (third-party administrator), claims adjusters, and defense counsel, including claim documentation, return-to-work coordination, modified duty tracking, and claim status follow-up.
- Support workers’ compensation audits, insurance renewal requests, loss-run reviews, EMR (Experience Modification Rate) analysis, payroll classification support, and claim trend reporting.
- Track and report safety metrics, including incidents, near misses, corrective actions, training completion, claim activity, loss trends, TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate), DART (Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred), and other safety performance indicators.
- Coordinate and conduct new hire safety orientations, ongoing employee training, and safety refresher training as needed.
- Maintain required safety documentation, certifications, training records, inspection reports, incident files, and related compliance records.
- Support project teams during pre-construction planning by identifying potential safety risks and site-specific safety requirements.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with company safety standards, contractual requirements, and applicable jobsite safety rules.
- Coordinate emergency response planning and preparedness activities.
- Stay current on industry regulations and best practices to continuously improve company safety initiatives.
- Foster a culture where every employee takes ownership of workplace safety.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of construction safety experience required; 5+ years in a construction safety management role preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, IIPP requirements, construction safety standards, incident investigation, and safety recordkeeping.
- Experience coordinating workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, insurance audits, OSHA logs, and claim documentation strongly preferred.
- Experience in commercial and/or residential construction preferred.
- Experience supporting litigated workers’ compensation claims or coordinating with claims adjusters, TPA, broker, and defense counsel preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification required; OSHA 510, CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or similar safety credential preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple active job sites.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital reporting platforms.
- Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience developing company-wide safety programs.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
- Willingness to travel between multiple project sites.

Salary Range
$80,000 to $120,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability to manage a construction safety program across multiple active job sites.
