Summary:
Performs semi-skilled to skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of storm drainage systems. Performs routine labor such as cleaning out culverts, installing new culverts, clearing rights-of-way, repairing roads, etc. Duties are generally routine in nature, performed with a degree of independence, and regulated with supervision or other directives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs routine stormwater work such as shoveling out culverts, raking out ditches, cutting driveways for changing culvert elevations, installing new culverts, rectifying existing culvert elevations; occasionally shoots grades for drainage requirements.
Operates various equipment including jackhammer, air compressor, pumps, hand tools, spirit level, concrete saws, power tools, etc.
Operates reach-out and slope mowers, trucks, and other heavy equipment.
Performs routine inspections and cleaning of storm sewer lines.
Assists in herbicide spraying.
Operates a storm drain line cleaner.
Assists in laying brick and block in the construction of catch basins, manholes, etc.
Assists in setting forms and finishing concrete.
Completes required reports and documents.
Assists with the monitoring and sampling of stormwater runoff.
Assists in loading or unloading materials, equipment, and inventory items.
Assists in cleaning maintenance and storage buildings, equipment, and other working areas.
Participates in on-call and after-hours duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs when necessary.
Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.
Meets attendance requirements.
Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.
Performs other job-related functions as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent recognized certificate, supplemented by one (1) year related experience.
Qualification Requirements:

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license and the ability to obtain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers’ License class B or above with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
Individuals applying for this position or incumbents of this position are required to hold (or obtain within 6 months of employment) a valid commercial driver’s license (class B or above) as a condition of employment. All applicants applying for a position that requires a CDL and employees currently holding a CDL as required by their position description are subject to pre-employment and continuing post-employment drug and alcohol testing. Failure to comply with such testing is grounds for termination of employment.
The ability to obtain a Class A, B, and C Stormwater Systems Operators License within one (1) year.
The ability to obtain Stormwater Dry Weather Field Screening Certification within one year.
The ability to obtain Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Certification within one (1) year.
Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Certification within six (6) months of employment.
Fork Lift Operator Certification within six (6) months of employment.
Good working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions during performance of work.
Ability to gain knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in performance of work.
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.

Sufficient physical strength and agility to do manual labor for extended periods of time and under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to move up to 75 lbs. over a distance of 100 feet.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle under all weather conditions any time of day or night.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Sufficient auditory perception and speaking ability for radio communication.

Several stormwater system components are included in the work environment. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available for review to insure employee is familiar with appropriate safe handling procedures associated with each chemical of interest.
