Essential Job Duties
The Academic Advisor in the Poole College of Management at NC State University is a full-time, 12-month administrative position (EHRA) that reports directly to the Senior Associate Director of Advising or the Associate Director of Advising Programs. Our Academic Advising Team serves over 3,800 students through an integrated, team-based advising model.
Rather than managing individual caseloads, advisors work through a unified system that ensures timely and consistent advising support for students. Students are encouraged to identify a preferred advisor but may consult with any member of the advising team, allowing for seamless support even during peak advising periods. Success in this role requires strong coordination, collaboration, and communication skills to provide high-quality service and continuity of support for every student.
The primary role of the Academic Advisor is to advise undergraduate students in the Poole College of Management regarding academic requirements from matriculation through graduation, course selection and registration, and other issues related to academic progress and student success. The Academic Advisor will work collaboratively within the college’s shared advising model and will regularly assist in the implementation and facilitation of the personal and professional identity development course taught to undergraduate students each academic year. Additionally, the Academic Advisor will support various initiatives within the Office of Undergraduate Programs, including orientation, welcome week, and commencement activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and delivering support initiatives for a variety of student populations to increase student engagement and success.
- Managing and advising a student organization within the college.
- Working with new students to ensure a successful transition to NC State and Poole College.
- Collaborating effectively within the shared advising model to provide consistent support for undergraduate students.
Opportunities for hybrid work will be offered to this individual upon completion of the onboarding and training period.
