Job Summary:
Miller Timber Services & Forest Edge Services is seeking a highly skilled and independent Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our forestry service team. This is a “mobile” position requiring a mechanic who thrives in remote forest environments and can operate out of a provided service truck to minimize machine downtime. You will be responsible for the diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance of sophisticated logging machinery. Repairs will be made on company owned machines as well as customer machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- On-Site Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures on-site at active logging jobsites.
- System Maintenance: Perform skilled repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, and brake systems, as well as advanced computer-controlled systems.
- Specialized Diagnostics: Utilize modern diagnostic tools and software to identify malfunctions in automated systems.
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, oil changes, and part replacement (Pumps, valves and hoses) to prevent costly breakdowns.
- Safety & Documentation: Adhere to strict safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout, PPE) and maintain detailed service records for all field activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a heavy equipment/diesel technology program is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with heavy equipment, specifically within the logging or forestry sector (e.g. harvesters, feller bunchers, skidders, and log loaders)
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with diesel engines, high-pressure hydraulics, and electrical schematics.
- Experience with major brands such as Ponsse, John Deere, Tigercat, Komatsu, or Timber Pro.
- Welding and fabrication skills for field repairs
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean record. CDL preferred.

Compensation:
Depends on Experience.
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
