Location: Remote (U.S.-Based) with Extensive Travel
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Controls Engineer to support advanced automation systems utilized in highly regulated manufacturing environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on controls professional who excels at troubleshooting complex machinery, programming motion control systems, and working directly with customers to optimize equipment performance.
The position is remote and requires significant travel to customer facilities across the United States.
Compensation
· Base Salary: $80,000 – $100,000
· Paid Overtime: $20,000 – $40,000
· Total Compensation Potential: $100,000 – $140,000+
Key Responsibilities
· Troubleshoot and resolve PLC, motion control, HMI, and software-related issues through remote diagnostics and onsite support.
· Travel extensively (approximately 30 weeks per year) to customer locations throughout the United States.
· Develop, modify, test, and implement PLC and HMI applications for existing and new equipment.
· Program and support multi-axis servo motion systems.
· Integrate and commission automation subsystems, including:
· Machine vision systems
· Laser technologies
· Robotics and automated handling systems
· Perform machine startups, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and validation support.
· Review and maintain software and technical documentation in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
· Provide production support, technical guidance, and customer training.
· Collaborate with engineering teams to implement system improvements and upgrades.
· Serve as a trusted technical resource and deliver exceptional customer support.
Required Qualifications
· 5–10 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, machine commissioning, or field service engineering.
· Strong experience programming and troubleshooting servo motion control systems.
· Proficiency with:
· CODESYS (IEC 61131-3)
· PacDrive 3
· Experience with complex machine controls and multi-axis servo-driven equipment.
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience developing HMI and SCADA applications.
· Knowledge of VBA, scripting languages, and SQL databases.
· Experience within pharmaceutical, medical device, packaging, food and beverage, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
· Familiarity with machine vision, robotics, and advanced automation technologies.
· Experience supporting high-speed manufacturing or packaging equipment.
