Position Overview
The Xu Lab, in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, is seeking a part-time technician. The primary objective of this position is to construct genetic mutants of Streptococcus pyogenes.
Key Responsibilities
Mutant Construction: Design and generate targeted gene mutations in streptococcal strains.
- Molecular Cloning: Perform PCR, restriction cloning, plasmid purification, and gel electrophoresis.
- Bacterial Transformation: Introduce recombinant DNA into bacteria using electroporation or chemical competence.
- Strain Verification: Validate mutant strains using screening PCR and DNA sequencing data analysis.
- Inventory Tracking: Maintain clean records of primers, plasmids, and newly created glycerol stocks.
Location MUSOM - Marshall University School of Medicine Salary Range Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related biomedical field
Experience
- Experience: Prior hands-on experience with molecular cloning protocols is highly preferred.
- Core Skills: Proficiency in aseptic technique, bacterial culturing, and standard PCR assays.
- Attributes: Strong attention to experimental detail and reliable data documentation habits.
