Position Summary: Undertakes all unit clerical functions within a single or multiple resident or patient care units with a clear focus upon resident/patient needs and treatment by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Critical Tasks:
- Maintains patient information on a continually and accurately updated basis with rapid timeliness.
- Schedules patient/resident medical and laboratory service appointments while ensure clear communication to all directly involved parties.
- Communicates thoroughly and frequently with patients/residents while ensuring understanding of pertinent information.
- Coordinates accurately with patient transportation providers.
- As appropriate, communicates with patient/resident advocates and representatives as authorized by the patient/resident or their representative(s).
- Ensures timely, accurate and dependable flow of all patient/resident information within assigned unit to all necessary parties with in all regulatory requirements without exception.
- Records information such as Physicians’ orders and instructions, dietary requirements, and medication information, on patient charts and medical records.
- Prepares notice of patient’s/resident’s discharge to inform business office.
- Requisitions supplies designated by nursing staff.
- Answers telephone and intercom calls and provides information or relays messages to patients/residents and medical staff.
- Greets and directs visitors to patient/ resident rooms.
- Distributes mail, newspapers, and flowers to patients/residents.
- Compiles census of patients/residents.
- Maintains accurate and continually updated appointment books and ensures timely and thorough communication of such information to all involved parties.
- Coordinates, verifies and documents all patient/resident information while ensuring highly organized activities by the patient/resident according to all scheduled actions.
- Assures accurate and timely filing and recording all medication records and information.
- Undertakes all activities in a manner that is fully compliant with all state and federal regulations and requirements.
- Assures 100% accuracy of all patient/resident data entered, accessed or maintained.
- Interacts with patients/residents on a very frequent and required pleasant and responsive basis.
- Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years experience in a medical environment.
- Current CPR/AED Certification; or able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
- Employment at the Caring House requires: AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
