Salem Health, Hospitals and Clinics is excited to announce that we are looking for a speech language pathologist clinical fellow to join our outpatient neuromuscular speech therapy team. The clinical fellow commits to a one year fellowship position to gain excellent patient-care experience and further their professional development.
Our collaborative outpatient neuromuscular rehab team is composed of speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and acute rehab therapy aides. The speech team provides comprehensive speech, language, swallowing and cognitive therapy to a diverse patient population. Care is provided to patients in an outpatient setting. Instrumental evaluations are performed on-site daily.
In your clinical fellowship year, you will apply the principles of professional practice in Speech-Language Pathology to evaluate and treat patients with the focus on restoring and enhancing a person’s ability to function as independently as possible. To meet these goals, you will:
- Conduct evidence-based evaluations for speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable and functional goals, including post-acute home programs.
- Collaborate with patients, families and interdisciplinary teams to support care and discharge planning including participation in daily care rounds.
- Administer and interpret instrumental assessments (e.g., swallow studies) as appropriate.
- Focus on exceptional patient care and customer service, fostering a supportive and respectful environment.
- Learn to manage a dynamic caseload efficiently, adapting to department needs and productivity expectations.
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology required.
- Eligible for a temporary license in Oregon under the supervision of an ASHA certified SLP.
Additional information
- Clinical rotation in department-specific area preferred.
- If completing MBSS or FEES/FEEST studies, specialty training and/or coursework completion is required and may include MBSImp courses, FEES/FEEST courses, and/or other coursework identified by the organization as indicated.
