Coordinate the planning and implementation of all engineering & quality activities associated with the development of new or changing products/processes using engineering principles, customer performance specifications & cross-functional teams.
Responsible for current production documents including product drawings, Engineering Bill of Materials, DFMEA’s, DVP&Rs, product specifications, gage requirements and test methods.
Work closely with CAD designers on product changes and approve drawing details.
Provide technical interface and liaison with the customer engineering & assembly plants.
Resolve engineering issues related to current production programs including design, assembly, and manufacturing improvements as the product owner.
Participate in cross-functional team reviews and facilitate corrective actions for customer concerns or returned product. Assist in resolving problems identified through inspection, testing, or customer response.
Provide technical support and direction to suppliers as appropriate & support improvement activities as required.
Responsible for product cost optimizations.
Work in a team with the program quality engineer in conducting and establishing initial process capability, Control plans and Customer approvals to ensure timely product PPAP.
Coordinate internal material testing and dimensional layout requirements.
Analysis and documentation of customer warranty claims. Summarize and report warranty metrics monthly. Participate as member of appropriate program improvement team and facilitate corrective actions for warranty claims
Travel to customer or supplier to address concerns as required.
Contribute to and follow all applicable SDS Standards including – SDS Handbook, SDS QSP,SMR Standards, DWI’s, Design Guidelines, Forms, and Resins.
Bachelor's degree in engineering; or 5+ years of experience in product/quality engineering; or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Strong familiarity and aptitude with mechanical and/or electromechanical devices/mechanisms
produced in a high volume manufacturing environment. Understanding of common materials
utilized on mirror/lighting components and how they interact when assembled.
Must possess knowledge of Quality information systems & automotive systems and procedures.
Must possess or acquire skills to provide training sessions for plant employees if required.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, perform design of experiments, capability studies, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance and statistical quality control techniques.
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
