Project Manager – Road Construction
Job Description
Spear D Construction is seeking an experienced Road Construction Project Manager to lead heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction through final completion. This position is responsible for overseeing roadway, paving, grading, utility, and infrastructure projects while ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications and government regulations.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in heavy civil construction, understands DOT and municipal roadway projects, and excels at leading field teams, subcontractors, and client relationships in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of roadway and heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and production goals.
- Coordinate grading, excavation, underground utilities, paving, concrete, drainage, and roadway construction activities.
- Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to ensure successful project execution.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, municipalities, utility companies, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Lead project meetings, progress updates, and coordination with field superintendents and crews.
- Monitor labor, equipment, subcontractor performance, and material costs to maximize productivity and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards, environmental regulations, quality control requirements, and project specifications.
- Identify project risks early and develop proactive solutions to minimize delays and cost impacts.
- Oversee project closeout, including punch lists, as-built drawings, testing documentation, and final acceptance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Project Management experience in heavy civil, roadway, highway, paving, or infrastructure construction.
- Proven experience managing roadway, grading, asphalt paving, concrete, underground utilities, or public works projects.
- Strong knowledge of roadway construction methods, earthwork, drainage systems, utility installation, traffic control, and paving operations.
- Experience managing projects for DOT, municipal, county, or other public agency contracts is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, contracts, and project scheduling.
- Experience with contract administration, subcontract management, and change order negotiation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining budgets and schedules.
- Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with Viewpoint, Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar construction management software is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Experience
- New Mexico DOT (NMDOT) project experience.
- Public infrastructure, roadway widening, bridge approaches, utilities, or municipal street improvements.
- Experience with earthwork quantities, production tracking, and equipment utilization.
- Knowledge of erosion control, SWPPP requirements, and traffic control planning.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
