Marine Parts Manager
Position Summary
The Marine Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Parts Department to ensure efficient inventory management, exceptional customer service, and strong support for the Service and Sales Departments. This position manages purchasing, inventory control, staff supervision, vendor relationships, and departmental profitability while maintaining high standards of organization and accuracy.
Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the Parts Department.
- Lead, train, coach, and develop parts department employees.
- Create employee schedules and manage department staffing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts department.
- Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
Inventory Management
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support service, retail, and sales.
- Monitor inventory turns and minimize obsolete or aged inventory.
- Perform cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
- Ensure accurate receiving, stocking, labeling, and storage of parts.
- Maintain inventory accuracy within the dealership management system.
- Process warranty returns, vendor returns, and core returns promptly.
Purchasing & Vendor Relations
- Order parts and accessories from manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, freight, and purchasing agreements when applicable.
- Maintain strong relationships with OEM and aftermarket vendors.
- Monitor backorders and communicate estimated arrival times.
- Stay current on new products and manufacturer programs.
Customer Service
- Provide exceptional service to retail and wholesale customers.
- Support service technicians with timely parts availability.
- Assist the Sales Department with new boat rigging and inventory needs.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure timely communication regarding special orders and backordered items.
Financial Management
- Manage departmental budget and expenses.
- Monitor gross profit margins and departmental performance.
- Achieve inventory turn and profitability goals.
- Review monthly financial statements and identify improvement opportunities.
- Minimize lost sales through effective stocking practices.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Service Manager to prioritize technician needs.
- Communicate regularly with the Sales Department regarding inventory requirements.
- Coordinate with Warranty Administration regarding warranty parts and returns.
- Support company-wide operational goals and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Previous marine, powersports, automotive, RV, or heavy equipment parts management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of marine parts, accessories, and OEM manufacturers preferred.
- Excellent organizational and inventory management skills.
- Strong leadership and employee development abilities.
- Proficiency with dealership management software and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment (training provided if required).
