Position Summary
Activity Staff members play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging afterschool environment. Mentors who build meaningful relationships with teens, encourage participation, and help foster a positive community while maintaining professional boundaries and ensuring program safety.
Primary ResponsibilitiesTeen Support & Engagement
- Build positive, supportive relationships with teens.
- Be present, engaged, and available during program hours.
- Encourage participation in activities and programs.
- Support teens socially, emotionally, and academically.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times.
Supervision & Safety
- Supervise teens during on-site activities and off-site activities when applicable.
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
- Follow all program rules, policies, and procedures.
Program Participation
- Assist with daily activities and programs.
- Support staff and program leadership throughout the day.
- Help with program setup and cleanup duties.
Professional Conduct
- Model positive behavior and respectful communication.
- Use active listening skills when interacting with teens.
- Treat all participants fairly and respectfully.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Use phones and social media appropriately during program hours.
Training & Meetings
- Attend required monthly trainings and staff meetings.
- Participate in reflection and professional development activities.
- Stay informed about program expectations and updates.
Program Culture
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Encourage teamwork among other staff.
- Represent Sandpoint Teen Center positively in the community.
- Support the mission, values, and expectations of the program.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Experience working with teens in educational, recreational, mentoring, youth development, or similar settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse groups of teens.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in youth programs, afterschool programs, camps, coaching, education, counseling, or mentoring.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Food Handlers Permit (or willingness to obtain).
