Plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of staff performing repair and maintenance work on revenue buses and non-revenue fleet vehicles, passenger amenities, owned/leased facilities, and equipment; provides detailed procedures to employees and responds to technical questions from employees; inspects, repairs, maintains, and purchases parts and supplies associated with repairs and maintenance of the fleet and facilities; develops, implements, and monitors safety and performance training for assigned staff; ensures vehicle safety and readiness; provides complex staff assistance to management staff in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required.

Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, schedules, and reviews the work of staff in the Fleet and Facilities Division; trains staff in work procedures; assigns and manages work orders, evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively administers initial disciplinary action; participates in the recruitment, selection, and promotion of staff.

Ensures efficient, dependable, and safe operation of the transit fleet; inspects equipment failures; coordinates Root Cause Analysis, as required; determines type and extent of repairs required and schedules repair of components, considering time requirements and vehicle downtime.
Inspects and verifies work in progress and completed work of assigned employees and contractors for accuracy, proper and safe work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; conducts quality control and safety inspections of facilities, fleet, and equipment.
Creates daily assignments for assigned employees based on current vehicle needs, daily vehicle inspection reports, required preventative maintenance inspections due, requests for service, and in line with planned long-term projects; monitors, evaluates, and ensures achievement of staff assignments.
Implements a detailed preventative maintenance program for each vehicle, facility, and piece of equipment, in compliance with federal requirements, the District’s Transit Asset Management Plan, and best practices.
Plans, procures, and implements maintenance program needs for all passenger amenities including mobility hubs, transit centers, bus shelters, and maintenance facilities located at the Corporation Yard.
Implements and maintains a mechanic training and certificate program to provide needed technical skills for assigned staff in the repair and maintenance of fleet and facilities.
Maintains files, databases, and records related to fleet and facilities maintenance; prepares a variety of written reports, memoranda, and correspondence; assists with audits and inspections.
Represents the District in meetings with members of other public and private organizations, community groups, contractors, developers, and the public.
Ensures staff observe and comply with all District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.

Education and Experience:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized mechanical or technical training in vehicle maintenance or a related field.
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible equipment maintenance experience, of which three (3) years should be in a supervisory or lead mechanic capacity.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of, or successful acquisition within 60 days of employment, a valid “Class A” or “Class B” Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements, to be maintained throughout employment.
Must obtain and maintain all other endorsements/clearances required by DMV and obtain DOT medical certificate and maintain such for the duration of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
When assigned to an office environment, must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; ability to stand and walk between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
When assigned to field inspection, must possess mobility to work in a shop and field environment; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various District sites; vision to detect shades of color, read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job requires frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work areas. Environmental CONDITIONS
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees also work in a shop and field environment and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Must be flexible and available to work various shifts on weekdays, weekends, evenings, overtime, and holidays.
