We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team in Burbank, California. This is a high-ownership role for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced business environment and enjoys balancing strong technical accounting responsibilities with practical problem-solving.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance and Financial Planning, this role will take ownership of core accounting functions including month-end close, general ledger management, reconciliations, multi-state sales tax compliance, commissions, intercompany accounting, royalties, and audit support.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, accountable, collaborative, and confident working independently while partnering across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & General Accounting
- Independently manage key components of the month-end close process
- Prepare and post journal entries including payroll, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, sales commissions, depreciation, amortization, intercompany transactions, and sales tax accruals
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and proactively resolve discrepancies
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules
- Review balance sheet and income statement activity to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Ensure all accounting entries are properly documented and audit-ready
Sales Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and file multi-state sales tax returns
- Maintain and review customer resale tax exemption certificates
- Respond to tax notices and agency inquiries
- Partner with internal departments to support tax compliance requirements
Commissions, Royalties & Intercompany Accounting
- Calculate and analyze commissions for a national sales organization
- Prepare royalty calculations and coordinate timely payments
- Perform monthly intercompany reconciliations to ensure balances are accurate and properly recorded
Financial Analysis & Process Improvement
- Review budget-to-actual variances and identify accrual or reclassification adjustments as needed
- Assist with financial reporting and analysis support
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, controls, and reporting efficiency
- Support special accounting and finance projects as needed
Audit Support
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for year-end audit
- Assist with internal and external audit requests
- Ensure financial records remain organized and audit-ready
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience owning or heavily supporting month-end close
- Hands-on SAP experience required (R/3 or S/4 preferred)
- Experience preparing and filing multi-state sales tax returns required
- Strong general ledger accounting and reconciliation experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP
- SUMIFS
- Large data analysis
- Account reconciliations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional, collaborative working style
Preferred
- Experience in wholesale distribution, consumer products, fashion, or similar industries
