Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Plumbing Estimator to join our estimating team for commercial and industrial mechanical projects. The Plumbing Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive bids by reviewing drawings, specifications, and subcontractor proposals; quantifying labor, materials, and equipment; and developing clear, well-supported takeoffs and cost proposals. The ideal candidate combines strong plumbing and mechanical knowledge with estimating experience and proficiency in estimating software such as Trimble.
Key Responsibilities

Review project drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to develop comprehensive plumbing takeoffs and cost estimates.

Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for piping, fixtures, specialties, and mechanical systems using manual methods and estimating software (e.g., Trimble).

Prepare complete bid packages, including material lists, labor hours, equipment needs, subcontractor scopes, and contingency allowances.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to validate assumptions, resolve discrepancies, and refine estimates.

Develop and maintain historical cost databases, unit prices, and productivity rates to ensure accurate, up-to-date pricing.

Analyze subcontractor bids and change order requests and provide recommendations to management.

Present estimates and scope clarifications to clients and internal stakeholders as needed.

Support preconstruction and value-engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving alternatives and constructability improvements.

Maintain clear documentation of takeoffs, assumptions, and estimate revisions for auditability and future reference.

Stay current on market trends, material pricing, and labor rates to maintain competitive proposals.
Qualifications
-
Associate degree or technical certification in construction management, mechanical engineering technology, plumbing, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

3+ years of commercial plumbing or mechanical estimating experience, preferably in construction or contracting environments.

Proven ability with estimating tools and software; experience with Trimble estimating software strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, piping materials, fixtures, codes, and installation methods.

Accurate takeoff and math skills, with attention to detail and ability to produce clear, defensible estimates under deadline.

Familiarity with construction contracts, scopes of work, and bid processes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with project teams and vendors.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and plan review tools (Bluebeam or similar).

Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple bids and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
