JOB SUMMARY: Sycamore Child Care
The Assistant Director works with the Director and management team to create a safe and nurturing childcare center following the Waldorf model of early childhood education and nature-based curriculum in line with the mission of the school. This position is responsible for managing and supervising the childcare center in the absence of the Director. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Director to manage and coordinate school resources to develop and implement the curriculum and maintain an unencumbered environment for the care and education of young children. In addition, this position steps into the classroom, as needed, during teacher absences or when teachers need additional support. The Assistant Director ensures the childcare center meets FCS’ Staff/Child ratios in conjunction with licensing requirements. The Assistant Director works with the entire Center community to imagine, explore, and execute the steps necessary to enable the Center to move forward and thrive, coordinating with the Director to recruit, interview, and participate in the hiring, training, mentoring, supervising, and support of all childcare and teaching staff. The Assistant Director, together with other staff, will ensure the grounds and building reflect a welcoming and safe environment for children and their families.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
● Must be at least 25 years old.
● ECE certificate or equivalent
● Must have a college degree with a minimum of 45 credits in Early Childhood Education.
● Have at least two years’ experience working in early childhood education.
● Have at least two years’ experience managing a center-based program or similar management role.
● Have an understanding or willingness to learn about Waldorf Education.
● Degree in Waldorf Education is a bonus.
● Be on the premises for most of the eight (8) hours scheduled and designate a person in charge that meets the qualifications of a Lead Teacher when not present.
● Completed Pre-service Training Requirements, DCYF orientation for early learning program, a thorough knowledge of WA licensing (WAC) regulations for childcare centers.
● WA state portable background check (including fingerprinting), 1st Aid/CPR Infant/Child/Adult, Basic STARS training
● Proof of negative TB test within the last 12 months
General Responsibilities
1. Plan and manage a rich learning environment in collaboration with the Lead Teachers that is in accordance with the philosophy of the school and ensures the needs of the children are met safely and according to their development.
2. Provide back up support in the classroom, as needed, during teacher absences or when teachers need additional support.
3. Assist with compliance of licensing, training, and safety requirements.
4. Maintain a healthy daily rhythm schedule, prepare daily spaces, materials, and activities, and lead children in activities according to established lesson plans.
5. Maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the school.
6. Assist with planning and attending school festivals and events.
7. Provide faculty support by mentoring teaching staff and creating a cooperative atmosphere among staff.
8. Teach and model consistent, appropriate conflict resolution techniques in order that students and teachers may learn to discuss their problems and negotiate with each other.
9. Ensure that there is always adequate adult supervision in compliance with licensing student/staff ratios.
10. Ensure the safety and security of children and school grounds at all times.
11. Balance the provision of childcare with management or supervisory responsibilities.
12. Communicate any questions or concerns to Teachers.
13. Report any suspicions of abuse or neglect to Director.

Pay: $31.00 - $34.00 per hour
